Libre Allocution

It seems the French have made it illegal to say that you don't believe that the mass murder of Armenians in Turkey following WWI was genocide. Well, kudos to the Frogs for actually aknowledging evil in the world, it's big step forward for them, but since they are on a "make it to illegal to say" kick here's some other things it should be illegal for the French to say:
  • Would you like some snails?
  • I would like a hamburger.
  • We are not snotty, we're just right.
  • I don't think they'll attack.
  • Hand me that pen, I'd like to sign your treaty.
  • Would you like to buy some weapons?
  • We had nothing to do with Canada.
  • If it wasn't for us you'd never have won that revolution.
  • Viva Le [fill in the blank]
  • You can trust us.
  • We surrender.

Well I like hearing them say "we surrender" every few years. It makes for a good laugh. They're like the good joke you need to hear ever once in a while just to make you laugh.

Yeah, legislating "the truth" is pretty much always a good idea.

I've heard it said that the political spectrum 'wraps' around. i.e. if you go Left far enough, you end up on the Right, and vice versa. Now we have some proof. By trying to enforce progressive ideals, the French have punched through from Lefty Political Correctness into Righty Thought-Police Fasism. Very impressive.

There is a notable account of Noam Chomsky avoiding this by defending a Holocaust denier's book. Noam got attacked by a lot of people on the Left and Right "how can you defend this man who said the Holocaust never happened?" Noam kept repeating that you have to appreciate the difference between agreeing with someone (which he didn't) and supporting his freedom to express his beliefs.
